I’m not really talking about the guitar and bass guitar bit. I actually think that part of Rock Band is lame because it has nothing to do with playing real guitar and very little to do with the songs you’re playing. It has nothing to do with guitar playing because playing real six string is about a million times more complex than simply pressing a few buttons and it has little to do with the music because I have found that the colors rarely change at the same time as any musical changes in the song.
It’s the singing and the drumming aspects of the game that excite me. These aspects are directly related to really doing these things “in real life” and they are also both obviously related to the music that you’re performing
If you sing in key and with the right timing then you will get a good score. No you don’t have to sing the lyrics (you can just hum) but so what? What matters is the timing and hitting the right notes. I think Beatles Rock Band Video Game is really a really great way to to work on your ability to sing.
