It doesn’t matter where you play video games or which ones you prefer, buying a new game is a very expensive purchase. Most of the newer releases will run you about fifty dollars or more. Take Guitar Hero III for example with its price tags of ninety dollars for the game and guitar. There are ways you can rescue save money buying games. You just need to know how.

I’ll be the first one to admit that I love being one of the first people to own a new game once it comes out but that doesn’t mean I buy every game I want at full price. Instead of wasting waste my money, I try to wait a new release out a few weeks in the hopes of finding it cheaper. There are a number of ways you can save some extra cash when getting getting video games. Here are some of the more popular ways:

• You can never go wrong keeping a few bucks on video game by purchasing used ones. At the very least you’ll save around ten dollars but potentially can save up to twenty to thirty bucks. I know that buying a newly released game used is usually impossible but if you’re willing to wait a few weeks, you’ll probably find one. The money you’ll keep makes it worth the wait.

• The one thing you need to be careful about when purchasing used games are the condition of the disc. Ask to see it before you buy it. The last thing you want is to get home and see the game is all scratched up and won’t play correctly.

• One way to find a game cheaper is wait for the price to be reduced. You’re chances of finding a game at a bargain price is greatly increased the longer you wait. You won’t believe the amount of bargains you’ll find on games that have been released over a year ago. Some can be found half the cost.

• Skim over the flyers to electronics stores looking for sales. Although, most place don’t really offer deep discounted sales on video games, you can find one every now and then. This is most commonly done around the holiday season.

• You won’t find this all too often but close out sales sometimes offer the best buys out there. Look for places that are going out of business. They are sure to offer great discounts on merchandise they are looking to unload before they close their doors for good. Often times, people go to closing sales looking for big ticket items, so their selection of video games is often overlooked and more importantly, untouched. That means a lot of great video games can be available.

• Another way to play games is to rent them first. There a lot of games out there that can often be beat in less than a day or two of serious playing. Now imagine all the money you’ll save by renting a game and beating it than buying one and beating only a few days later. With the money you save from using this little trick, you can afford to pay full price for a new release.

Ask any friends of yours if they would be willing to sell you any old games they don’t play anymore. You’re bound to get a great deal from them. Why would your friend try to rip you off?
