Tinnitus is a condition where you hear ringing, buzzing, roaring, whistling, or other strange noises in one or both ear without an external source of sound and the ringing may seem as if it is coming from the middle of your head.
Millions of Americans suffer from Tinnitus every day, it affects as many as forty million people many of them severely enough to cause problems like, insomnia and depression. Tinnitus can be classified as ether subjective or objective, with objective Tinnitus typically the doctor can hear the sounds as well because objective Tinnitus is generally caused by tumors, malformed blood vessels causing turbulent blood flow, or rhythmic spasms of the muscles around the ear. Subjective means the sounds are only heard by the person suffering from Tinnitus due to damage to the nerve endings in the ear.
When it comes to Tinnitus and its treatments, it is best to know what the causes are in the first place so, here are some of the things that can cause Tinnitus:
- prolonged exposure to loud noise 90 decibels or higher (this is the most common cause)
- excessive build up of ear wax
- ear infections
- aging
- medications including aspirin, quinine, heavy metals, alcohol, and certain antibiotics
- Menieris disease (syndrome)
