The Plight Of Single Parents

July 1, 2009 by ftsgetexback · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Parenting

For the past 25 years, single parenthood has become more and more common in society. New set-ups are emerging aside from the traditional nuclear family.

Single parenthood is commonly brought about by three things: divorce, death of the spouse or teenage pregnancy. Cohabitation outside a matrimonial set-up is common but it changes not so much the real parental status as the statistics behind it.

The number of single parent families has doubled in the last two decades. US census estimates that 59 percent of children in America will live with a single parent at least once. There are about 12 million single parents in the United States. About 20 million or 28 percent of children under 18 live with a single parent. 84 percent of those who live with one parent live with their mother.

Families which are headed by women are more vulnerable. Women’s social position is still relatively weaker than that of men. Single mothers have to cope with existing gender-based limitations for gainful employment vis-à-vis a very demanding family life.

Although 53.3 percent of single mothers in the U.S. are in the labor force, 3.9 million or 28 percent of households with a female single parent are in poverty compared to just 5.5 percent of two-parent families.

This is because of the fact that the median family income for U.S. female single parents is $25,500 which is about half the average income of all families and less than half of the income of married-couple families. Adjusting for inflation, it is even less than the median family income of married-couple families in 1969 ($39,800).

In comparison, 13.3 percent of households run by male single parents are in poverty. This is much less than the rate for single mothers, but still more than twice the poverty rate for married-couple families.

There had been policy proposals for single parents to receive social benefits but these have been controversial. According to liberal individualist, if people choose to have children, they are responsible to look after them.

The collectivist position which dominates continental Europe holds that children are other people’s business as well. This position also believes that the interest of the children is far greater than any concerns about the morality of the parents.

Aside from these economic realities, single parents also have to face the reality that children who live with single parents or even with a parent and step-parent, experience disadvantages in terms of psychological functioning, behavioral problems, education, and health.

Children with single parents are one and a half times likely to drop out of school and work in their early teens and twenties than children who grew up with two parents. Children with single parents are also twice as likely to have a child before the age of 20 as those raised in two-parent family.

Many psychologists and child development workers argue however that these studies are oversimplified and outdated. Many factors are involved in the psychological development of a child raised in a single parent home. Cooperation between divorced parents and quality of attention given to the child are examples.

No child in a single parent family is by default doomed for a maladjusted life. Single parents must model self-respect and self-nurturance to the children and establish a support system for the family.

Many studies have shown that children with single parents tend to have poorer academic performance and receive less intellectual stimulation than children living with married parents.

However, studies in the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University indicate that having a support system like a grandparent in the home, appears to buffer some of these negative effects. Children who live with a single parent and a grandparent fare just as well academically as children living with married parents.

These findings contradict the idea that living with two married parents is the only situation in which children can thrive.

Turning Bad Stuff Into Posives

I am positve that we all desire our lives to proceed the direction we hope for, but sometimes life throws us a curve ball. When that happens we actually have two options, either accept the fact that bad things happen and just suffer with it or cope with the situation and learn whatever lesson there is to discover.

The fact is that the situation has occurred and no amount of worrying or moaning and groaning about it will change this fact. Looking at it in this light, what point is there in letting it bother you?

It really makes more sense to deal with what happened and at least try to make lemonade out of the lemons that our life gave us. The vast majority of situations can be shifted into a learning experience or at least we can see some good aspect coming out of the problem.

It is easy to say that the place that you are in is bad, but there is the chance to say that this is an unanticipated challenge. Getting lemonade out of lemons is all in the way we experience the world. Even though this method will not change your conditions, how you frame the events will influence how well you handle the situation.energy healing

Put another way, any situation can be changed into a positive one. Just by reframing your point of view, you can transform a unpleasant situation into a learning experience that will help you discover to be a problem solver.

One way to look at it is that there really are no problems, the events are determined by how we see them, it is just our point of view. By looking at life this way and thinking about ways to fix the problem or what you discover from the problem is what determines whether you see the situation as positive or negative.spiritual healing

If you think of problems as positive, you can learn from them and this will help you grow. When life hands you a bunch of lemons, don’t hold on to them and understand that you may not be able to change your circumstances, you can make the end result a positive one.

Ethnic Single Parenting

Ethnically Speaking: The Trends In Single Parenting

Ethnic studies have discovered that 90% of single parents are women, while in 1995 32% of Black families are single parent households with dependent children. Only 8% of White families are single parent households and 7% in South Asian families.

Around half of Black women aged 30 and above are primary income generators in single parent households, while only one in ten among South Asian women have this scenario. Such figures indicate the sharp difference of Black and White single parent households.

Other ethnic studies of black and white women ages 15 and 44 found that family disruption is a major concern in future choices of children in terms of childbearing and marriage. An ethnic study conducted by Bumpass and McLanahan found that the daughters of single mothers have a:

- 53% chance of being married during their teen years
- 111% change of having teenage births
- 164% change of having premarital births
- 92% chance of experiencing their own marital-related problems.

The developing behavior of girls that grew up and having their father die early also leads to different effect.

- Black children are not significantly affected if their mother is widowed early in life.
- Parental family status does not have a considerable impact on whether white or black girls who grew up in families would get married again after getting divorced.
- The results show that when family background traits are kept constant.

Bumpass and McLanahan arrived on the conclusion that the finding give strong evidence that women who spend a portion of their livelihood in a single parent environment have a bigger chance of getting married and bearing children early, to have children out of wedlock and have major martial issues that will likely end in divorce.

Regardless of what ethnic group you are in, being a single parent is hard. Those coping with being a single parent normally feel the following: sadness, abandonment, confusion, guilt, fear of being alone, and anxiety. The following advises are crucial to help fight combat these feelings:

1) Forgive and forget – Letting go of unwanted feelings can make one feel happier and lighter. Holding on to anger provides more stress that letting go. Forgetting will make more bearable for you to move on and possibly develop a relationship, and preserving your relationship with your kids.

2) Maintain network and ties with your community – Having honorary uncles and aunts in the community develops camaraderie between the kid and the neighbourhood, and the parent and the neighbourhood. It also enables children better understand that creating relationships is an helpful way to forget the bad feelings that they felt during the divorce of their parents.

3) A sense of accomplishment – When a child is assigned with small tasks, a sense of accomplishment is normally felt. Since additional responsibilities have been given, a feeling of openness is added. This is due to the fact that a goal has been achieved to assist in the household. This makes the child feel that he is an integral member of the household.

4) Take responsibility – Before, the responsibility of caring for the family was shared between two individuals. Now, only one is tasked to provide for the whole family. Taking responsibility gives power to a single parent to be extra careful in making decision and managing the family. In addition, the parent can request assistance from the children on major decisions such as what items are essential in the grocery

5) Do not forget the old habits– Children need stability in their lives after a traumatic divorce. Rituals as going to dinner every Wednesday or the parent fetching the child from school every Friday should be kept. In this way, the child will feel that even if the parents are divorce, the good rituals are still there.

6) Different experience for the child – Since the child now shuttles between two separate parents, the child can further broaden his perception on how life should be tackled. The child is more receptive and aware to what goes around him, and accepts that the world is not perfect.

Cebu Realty Significantly Located In The Center Of The Philippines

July 1, 2009 by ftsgetexback · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Real Estate

Cebu real estate is ideally located in central Philippines, approximately 600 kilometers south of Manila and can be reached in an hour by air.

Strategically located in the heart of the of the Philippines, it serves as the jumping-off point to tourist destinations in the Philippines; Leyte, Bohol-Panglao, Samar, Dumaguete, Siquijor and Mindanao islands – Cagayan de Oro, Camiguin and Surigao del Norte.

The destination of Cebu Philippines is known for conventions and resorts. Taking complete advantage of the desirable sun, sand, and mountains, it is advertised as the best playground, with numerous holiday activities that have been set up throughout the province.

Cebu, arguably the country’s first-rate diving center, many scuba divers find Moalboal, Sogod, Pescador, Santa Rosa Islands and Boyong Boyong in Mactan as prime dive spots. World-class resorts fringe the islands, serving both divers and beach loving tourists alike.

Modern shopping malls, fine dining restaurants and lively entertainment centers, including two casinos and sprawling golf fairways, add luster to Cebu real estate landscape, offering tourists a plethora of activities to engage in.

Cebu has a proven capability and economic track record. It is the second largest city and without question the fastest growing economy in the country. It leads in exports of item such as furniture, fashion accessories, carrageenan, semi-conductors, electronic products, etc and is the countries second largest IT and BPO growth area behind Metro Manila.

Because of its deep-water harbor, Cebu is the base of the country’s domestic shipping. 80% of the country’s major shipping companies are based in Cebu. Likewise, with the Mactan Cebu International Airport, Cebu is an accessible gateway to southern Philippines. It allows easy movement of domestic and international travelers and trading connections.

Presently, direct flights are available for destinations such as Bangkok, Macau, Singapore, Jakarta, Narita, Seoul, Hong Kong, Kota Kinabalu and Qatar. Chartered flights are also available for Inchon, Kansai, Kaohsiung, Taipei and Nagoya.

Property is all about location, real estate in Cebu provides you with both the laid back speed of provincial living, as well as prerequisites of the urban dweller. Schools, hospitals, restaurants, shopping malls, and leisure are all found on the island itself.

Expatriates and overseas Filipinos have been sustaining a housing boom in Cebu, Philippines making them the industry’s top market because of their willingness to invest in quality housing or lease, short and medium term condos driving rents up to new highs.

At least $1 billion in remittances from Filipinos alone, living or working abroad flow in every month, not to mention the inflow of foreign real estate investors as the market in the United States turns from a sellers to a buyer’s market amidst falling property prices, job losses, and the tight credit conditions.

A high percentage of these inward remittances goes into buying new houses for their families, high-end condos or resort homes for their own use and in condo hotel or “Condotel” investments as income producing properties.

Condotels or condo hotels are the fastest growth area in the hotel industry today. Condotels have been around for quite some time now, and have been “Hot Investment Properties” in the U.S.A. for some time.

But what exactly are “condotels”? A condotel or condo hotel, is a combination of hotel and a condominium. You can think of it as the best of both worlds. Operating like a hotel, usually with more amenities than a normal residential condominium building, the condotel units are individually owned by many different owners. While different complexes and resorts may vary, most give you the choice of renting the units out or using them for personal use. Many of them have a rental program and management on the premises, getting rid of all the hassles that landlords always encounter.

Desirable locations to build in the Philippines are not limitless. There is a decreasing supply of available land in key markets such as Metro Manila, Cebu and Boracay. In the highly desirable areas available building land in prime locations are fast being sold which ensures that condotels built in these locations will see significant real property appreciation.

Web Site Promotion-Advertising Your Website For Profits

July 1, 2009 by ftsgetexback · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Website Promotion

Making money with your web site is the dream and goal of millions of webmasters all over the internet including myself. In order to reach this goal you need a variety of web site promotions running all at the same time.

Search engine optimization is still my number one traffic generator. I receive more traffic from Google than any other source on the internet. But it is becoming increasingly more and more difficult to achieve a top ten placement on Google or any other search engine as the internet grows and more webmasters compete for the same key words. There once was a time when I could rely on Google to provide me with all the traffic I needed but not any more. I need to promote and advertise my web site elsewhere if I expect to continue receiving good quality traffic to my web site.

Writing articles like this one is just one of the ways I use to promote my web site. There are literally thousands of sites on the internet that will allow you to submit articles such as this one. Your article will remain in their database or directory and as long as you allow re-print instructions along with your author bio you may also see your article on other sites that you did not even submit to. Make sure your web site URL is in your author bio and make sure the URL is active. Some sites will only post your article with static URL’s which will not be quite as effective. You can also use anchor text for your URL to help your search engine rankings. Use your targeted key words as your anchor text and you should see an increase in your search engine optimization efforts.

Number three on my list of web site promotions requires some cash. The majority of people I talk to about getting good quality traffic to a web site all want to do it for FREE without any advertising dollars spent. Although it is possible to promote a web site for FREE with no money, I highly recommend some form of pay per click campaign using Google adwords or Yahoo search marketing (formerly Overture). There are also a host of other smaller pay per click engines that I have used in the past including Findwhat and 7Search.

Press releases on the internet are gaining in popularity recently and you can actually get a press release published and listed on Google and Yahoo news search within 24 hours. For guidelines and how to get published visit the following web page. http://www.prweb.com/

Reciprocal linking has dropped off of my priority list of web site promotions but it can still be a very important means of web site promotion if done properly, and back links to your site are also essential to a good search engine ranking with Google. First of all you are not going to want to trade links with just anyone. Make sure the page’s your links are going to be on are actually indexed by Google. If you do not have the Google toolbar get it. It will tell you if a page has been indexed or not. Also ask the webmaster you are trading links with how many links they have per page. If they put more than 30 links on a page chances are your link will be lost and never clicked on.

Free classified advertising is another way to promote your site for free. But as the internet grows so too does the amount of webmasters submitting to these free classified sites. And the more people there are posting the less likely your ad will be seen. The key to good free classified advertising is testing your results. Test everything you do. When you find a good classified site that is giving you traffic keep using it but follow their guidelines on how often you should post.

Last but not least you need to be collecting e-mail addresses from your web site. Start a newsletter and ask your visitors to subscribe somewhere on your site. Once you have built up a good subscriber base you can e-mail your subscriber base a weekly newsletter that has to do with your web site’s theme or subject matter. Always include UN-subscribe instructions in case your visitors change their mind and no longer would like to receive e–mail from you.

I have just touched the surface on a few of the different techniques that I have used to promote my own web site. There are actually hundreds of other offline and online methods to promote a web site. Use your imagination and do not be afraid to try new things. Test everything you do and when you find something that works keep doing it.

Whether you enjoy a brisk morning walk to start the day or a game of tennis with a friend, the key is simply to get active–and stay active.

The health benefits from exercise are endless; here are three to get you motivated:

1. Strong Bones & Muscles

Clinical research has shown that regular physical activity is one of the best ways to maintain bone health. Weight bearing or strength training exercises, such as walking, jogging or using resistance bands or weights, are helpful in preserving bone mass. This is a critical component in reducing your risk for bone weakening conditions that occur with age and make you susceptible to fractures.

Weight bearing activities are also beneficial in building muscle mass, further supporting bone health. In addition, muscle burns more calories and helps you maintain a healthy weight. Strong muscles and bones improve your balance, strength and coordination, which may reduce your risk of falls and bone injuries. Your doctor can assist you in finding a weight bearing exercise that works for you.

2. Stress Reduction

Preliminary research studies have shown that regular physical activity can help the body cope with stress. Exercise releases endorphins into the system, which produce feelings of relaxation and well-being. A brisk walk or quick workout could be just the thing to calm you after a stressful day.

3. Manage Your Weight

Reducing sedentary activities, engaging in more physical activity, and burning more calories than you consume is the key to weight management. In addition, relying on a balanced diet rich in green vegetables, calcium and protein, not only helps maintain weight, but also supports healthy bone maintenance.

4 Simple Tips For Helping Organize Your Autistic Children’s Toys, Schedules And Schoolwork

July 1, 2009 by ftsgetexback · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Kids and Teens

Organized children are typically successful children. This is especially true for autistic children. Learning organizational skills helps kids develop their focus, concentration and motor skills.

Helping children on the autism spectrum learn to be organized can be more challenging because they are easily distracted, require visual cues and often times have limited motor skills.

Autistic kids are typically visual learners, which means they generally learn and perform better when provided with visual instructions and prompts. Below are four tips on how you can help your child be organized, develop skills and make smooth transitions between activities using visual instructions and prompts.

These Home Organization Tips may need to be adjusted depending on your child’s age and abilities. You can use these tips as a reference guide.

#1 – Create an easy-to-use and maintain bin system for your child’s supplies and toys. Separate the types of toys and supplies into individual bins. Take photographs of each type of toy or supply contained within and tape the photograph to the front of each corresponding bin.

For example: Place a photograph of Lego’s to your child’s bin that contains Lego’s. Do the same with markers, plush toys, crayons, and so on. Even if the bins are clear (transparent), it will be easier for your child to be organized if s/he has a visual cue as to where their toys or supplies belong. Choose bins with easy to remove lids or no lids.

#2 – Display your kid’s toys, supplies and clothing. It is easier for all children, especially autistic children, to stay organized and function if they can see their belongings. Drawers do not usually work well for children on the autism spectrum. If you must use drawers, tape a photograph on the front of each drawer that corresponds to what is kept in the drawer. If possible do not combine items into one drawer. Hang as many of their clothes as possible or fold them and place them on shelves, preferably in cubbies. Place jeans in one cubby, sweaters in another and so on. Socks, underwear and pajamas are best placed in transparent bins with photographs taped to the front.

#3 – Set up daily routines and stick to them as much as you can. Creating and following regular daily routines can make transitioning from one activity to another less upsetting for you child. Children on the autism spectrum often thrive when they have daily routines and typically react poorly to changes in routines. Once a solid routine is in place, small changes can be introduced slowly. Introducing small changes can actually help your child develop coping strategies to deal with transitions. It is best to introduce changes in routines in very small steps. Gradually, your child will be able to use strategies like social stories and self talk to work through the anxiety they experience when making transitions.

One helpful organizing routine — Give your child a 10-minute heads-up before supper each day and then ask them set an egg timer for 10 minutes. Teach them that when the timer goes off, they are to pick up all of their supplies and toys and place them in the appropriate bins.

This daily exercise establishes a routine, lets your child know what to expect, gives them a 10-minute lead-time and then provides them a distinct audio clue when it’s time to pick up and get organized. It is important to ask your children to set the egg timer, not you. It gets them more involved in the process and they will be more likely to follow through.

An addition to this routine — When the egg timer goes off and it’s time to pick up and get organized, you could play a specific song that your child then recognizes as the “pick-up and get organized” song. This can make it fun, playful, soothing and also can help keep them on task and get the work done faster.

#4 Take your child’s schedule and make it a picture schedule. Picture schedules work best for all kids on the autistic spectrum. Set up the picture schedule so that when your child is finished with the task or activity they can move that corresponding picture to the all done side of their schedule. Basically you are creating an interactive picture schedule that your child can “control”. Their picture schedule could also be organized by first, next, last. This gives them a specific order of the tasks and they can move the picture to the “completed” side.

To be help your child get and stay organized use visual aids and keep it simple. All four of these tips are only to be used as guidelines and ideas. Consider modifying and adjusting these ideas as you see fit based on your child’s needs, abilities and age. Each child on the autistic spectrum reacts a little differently, has different needs and is functioning at varying levels.

Unveiling The Possible Effects Of Single Parenting

July 1, 2009 by ftsgetexback · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Parenting

Times are rapidly changing. The elderly always argue that the modern culture has forsaken and outgrown the values taught and instilled by old customs, beliefs and traditions.

Moralists and conservative people are almost always raising their brows and expressing disgust over how current belief and culture systems are evolving. What has been unacceptable in the old world is now becoming fast and rapidly rising trends.

Taboos and outcast-driving issues of yester years are now very common have set minds of people that they actually are just normal and acceptable.

The Child

Because single parenting or parenthood is somehow a choice and decision, taken by the parent, one voice is still unheard of. It is that of the child’s.

Psychologists and advocates argue and insist that single parenting has adverse mental, emotional and psychological effect to the child. Tests from time to time validate that premise.

Several studies have found that the child’s thinking and mental mind set is somehow altered or affected if that child was raised by a single parent.

Although single parents must be commended for raising a child alone, he or she should not be blamed for any mental or psychological result of the situation to the child, as psychological assert.

Tests and observations have consistently concluded and found that single parenting makes children more aggressive and rebellious. Experts say the behavior could be the outcome of the angst and humiliation the child experiences while growing.

Because traditional and normal families have two parents, the mom and the dad, jointly raising kids, single parenting somehow makes the child feel abnormal, different and unaccepted.

The society can sometimes be too cruel for such children, which can make things worse. Humiliation and awkward feeling of insecurity is dangerous if left untreated or undetected in the child. That child can take the burden for the rest of his or her life.

Single parents

One of the issues that were raising the ire of people decades and even centuries back is the issue of single parenting. A quick look at social philosophies link single parenting to adventurism and liberation of people.

The Catholic Church has always been the dominating mentor and guide of traditions, norms and living. The church is so adamant to advocate the sanctity of the sacrament of marriage of matrimony.

That is why the procreation outside wedlock is strictly considered a ground for excommunication. It is one of the greatest sins, according to the Catholic Church, to engage in pre-marital sex.

Single parenthood, in that sense, can be taken in as a punishment of some sorts, to the people who disobey the teachings of the church. But radical thinkers think otherwise. So, is it?

Single parenting is becoming a rapidly rising trend in the society. Studies in the US alone indicate that there are four single parents to every ten parents, there are two single parents for every 10 adults in the country.

Your great grandparents must be really turning up their graves of they could be able to hear such statistics. How times have changed!
Thus, single parents and their children both need professional help through counseling. Reasonable advise and guides should be given both to the child and the single parent to make sure both of them deal with past, present and future issues from single parenting.

Counseling from professionals can form or make up a support system that will make single parenting easier and more effective. Because single parenting is no ordinary parenting, the parent and the child must learn to accept the situation minus the negative feeling.

Nowadays, single parenting is becoming a normal occurrence. Society is not that judgmental anymore towards the single parent and the child. Probably, it can be because of the immunity due to the rising number of single parents. Anyway, it can be positive because at least, single parents choose to be productive.

Pet Owner’s Guide To Dog Scabies

July 1, 2009 by ftsgetexback · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Pets

Scabies in dogs is caused by a mite infestation. These mites are very contagious. Other animals and even humans can be affected.

The mites live on the skin. They survive by eating material on the skin. They usually burrow just below the surface of the skin, but can sometimes be found crawling around on the surface. Here is everything you need to know regarding scabies in canines.

Symptoms

Dogs with this condition will itch severely. This prompts your dog to scratch at the area constantly. Crusting and hair loss are common in this situation. It can also increase the risk of secondary skin infections.

Diagnosis

Vets diagnose this diagnose based on your dog’s visual signs. A skin scraping can also be useful. Mites will be detected via the skin scraping. However, this can be an inaccurate method of diagnosis since these mites are commonly found on healthy dogs.

Treatment

Dogs with scabies will need to be bathed using a medicated shampoo. This means weekly bathes for at least a month. It’s sometimes necessary to treat this disease for longer than a month. Therefore, it’s best to check with the vet again in a month or so. He will be in a better position to determine if your dog still needs to be treated for the condition.

Prevention

This type of mite infestation is highly contagious, as you should know by now. If there are additional dogs in your home, you should have them checked for the mites. All carpeting and bedding need to be cleaned thoroughly since they can harbor the mites. Your dog will likely be reinfected if you don’t clean them.

Your precious pet can be susceptible to common illnesses in dogs. Fortunately, dog-illnesses.com provides a wealth of information on a range of these conditions. So, come by right now to become informed.
